Finally!

I just want to warn any of you Jerry Falwell lovers out there, you should probably not read on …. Hey, I warned you.

In case you didn’t hear the news, the “loveable” Jerry Falwell has passed on … to where, I’m not really sure … but the important thing is that he is outta our hair. For a man who was so “devoted” to Christianity, I’m not sure Christ would’ve gotten along with him too well. Jesus always preached forgiveness and understanding … so did Falwell, as long as the understanding you were doing was about his agenda.

If taken literally, Falwell basically considered more than 80% of the human population (sure, I’m making that number up, but not really) to be evil. Why? Well, most aren’t Christians. Yep, if you believe in God, but not Christianity, guess what? You were on Falwell’s hit list. If you ARE a Christian, but not his type of Christian … well, you get the idea.

Of course, his ridiculous remarks in the days, months and years following 9-11, helped to polarize people even more. I’m surprised Al Sharpton never went after the guy … although that would’ve been one heckuva battle, wouldn’t it? I’m just happy I don’t have to hear his ludicrous comments anymore … but I’m sure somebody will fill the vacuum soon enough .

This is sickening. He was merely a political opponent -- someone with whom we disagreed, nothing more. He had little or no influence on how we live our lives, didn't kill anyone, didn't commit any crimes, so why are we attaching such value to him?

Sure, he said some idiotic things, but (unlike Sharpton) was completely marginalized as a result.

We've in the past complained about a lack of civility in politics. We then openly celebrate the death of a mere political opponent?

What's sad is he probably started out on the right track long ago and then got caught up in the success and crap. *shaking head*

People never learn.

I'm not a big fan of people like Falwell who make a living preaching hate. Not going to miss this clown one single bit. Too bad there's still an army of his followers out there...

Rev - I see nothing wrong ... proceed.

Superstar - I hope he is reincanated as a turd.

Jeff - Seriously? Is it because he's a republican? You know, you are allowed to criticize them, even if you are one ...

Christina - He may have gotten a little full of himself when he opened up a University and made himself the Dean.

Minijonb - Hopefully Swaggart will replace him ... high probability of unintentional comedy.

Sorry Karl, this post wasn't a criticism. It was brazenly cheering a death, as confirmed by your reply to the Rev.

Cheering a death is the same as wishing death upon someone. Falwell deserved scorn, but did he deserve to die?

If so, why stop there? Who else deserves to die for saying stupid things and advocating policies you and I disagree with?

Of all people, Larry Flynt didn't cheer Falwell's death. "I hated everything he stood for, but after meeting him in person, years after the trial, Jerry Falwell and I became good friends." http://www.accesshollywood.com/news/ah5356.shtml

If Flynt can't cheer Falwell's death, then why should we?
