Thanks for Everything, Dad

Today, I celebrated another father’s day with my dad. He is probably the hardest-working man that I know (even to this day). And, even though he was more stubborn than a German Sheppard in a sausage factory, he always did (and continues to do) things that are in the best interests of his family.

My father helped develop my sense of humor and appreciation for comedy at a very young age – I remember many a weekend watching Laurel and Hardy, The Three Stooges, and Abbott and Costello with my Pop. Any night that Benny Hill or the Muppets were on, I was sure to get a seat next to dad and giggle at the goofiness.

My appreciation for sports was also encouraged by my dad at a very young age. He took me to countless Phillies and Flyers games as a youngster, and even drove me to the Meadowlands to see Pele play – one of the greatest sports highlights I ever witnessed. I never became the great soccer player my dad was, and even though he sometimes got frustrated at my play, in the end, he was happy with me just enjoying the game.

One thing I can’t understand, though. My dad is a technical genius. He can put things together in no time. He can build just about anything he can put his mind to. Heck, he once made a television from scratch. I have trouble replacing light bulbs. For some reason, I never picked up that technical “Green Thumb” that my dad has. But, thankfully, he is willing to come over and help me with any and all projects I have with my house. Maybe God deliberately made me technically illiterate just so dad and I can spend more time together.

Happy Father’s Day, dad.

Very Cool Los. Your Dad sounds like a great guy who's genuinely fun to be around and has a great sense of humor. Glad you got his humor if not his technical prowess.

Yay for Dads!
My pop is the reason I have such a love of computers. His love of computers spread to me at an early age, kinda like a plague. He used to be the head of 'office automations' for Baltimore County's Health Department... what that meant is that he got to order all the cool new gadgets and play with all the new upgrades. Cool stuff.

What's odd is that while he loves sports and car racing, I never got into either of those. Granted, I did play little league baseball at an early age, but I wasn't any good. What sucked more is that the coaches of the teams didn't do anything to encourage those of us who weren't 'little Mickey Mantles'. That was pretty crappy.

But my Dad always encouraged me to keep an open mind, and to never pass judgement on anything until you know it inside and out. He's a good man, who loves his family very much. Love ya, pop!

My dad was the only voice of reason in our house! ;o) Poor man...We made him crazy. 3 women. The man in my mind is a saint!

My dad reminds me (still) to change my oil, and that turning off every light in the house will save me millions on electricity in the long run. Plus, "Close that door. Were you born in a barn!?!?"

Love you, Dad. (hug)

No doubt - my dad should be given some sort of medal for having to deal with me for all those years ... Geesh!

He made a television from scratch, geez that must have been cool. Did he get the on demand stations for free?

Oh and God didn't deliberately make you technically illiterate... you do play a mean mega-touch.
