My Tush Is Chafed!

Exxon Mobile made 10.6 billion in profits this past year … AND THEY WERE DISAPPOINTED! You know what, I’m a little more than disappointed that I have to pay more than $3.50 a gallon for gasoline. In fact, I reached a “dubious” milestone this past week – I paid more than $50 to fill up my car … please, please, hold your applause.

It has gotten to the point that food prices are rising, and many other “business” areas are suffering because we just can’t afford to buy anything else but gasoline. It’s high time we do something … it’s been high time for quite a while, but “environmental” reasons were not enough … but financial reasons will hopefully spur on a change.

What’s the answer? I wish I knew – I’d be a very wealthy person right now, probably, if I possessed that knowledge. Is hydrogen fuel cells the answer? What about solar power? How about nuclear? I’ve heard a lot of talk about synthetic fuel (oil/gasoline) being an option that has rapidly become cost effective, thanks to the ridiculous rise in natural oil prices. What about this algae as fuel I’ve been reading about? Hey, at this point, I’m willing to listen to any intelligent idea … either that or start looking for a job in which I can work at home …HELP!

I know one thing... repealing the gas tax is not the answer.

Getting rid of the gas tax only gives oil companies an excuse to pocket the extra 18 cents a gallon instead of passing it on to the consumer.

And if they do pass it on to the consumer and lower the price, people will then feel free to use more gas which will drive up the demand at a time when supply is not able to keep up, which would then raise the price more. Simple economics.

The solution... conserve gas.

Fart in a jar.

Ethanol ain't the answer, it's driving corn prices up, and is not really any better for the environment. I'm in the transportation business so conservation isn't the answer for me.

If you can manage to work one day from home per week, you save %20 on gas. 20% of 3.50 is 70 cents, so really you'd be 'paying' 2.80/gal to drive to work.

We're not the ones that are going to come up with the next solution, but we can find ways to cope with this crap.

I agree with 'the rev' about the gas tax...not so much farting in jars.
I actually remember my Dad buying bikes for he and my Mom during the energy crisis in the 70's. I have a bike but no where to shower if I tried to take it to work. I am not sure that I am willing to smell all day to save gas.

I like what Sirgeb brought to the table here - I would totally be down with working from home part of the week.
Seems like the ethanol form corn thing is already causing food shortage problems - I hear we pay other countries for their corn because we don't want to grow it here, and in turn their people are starting to starve. It's a messed up situation, but there has to be a change coming soon.

Conservation is a good idea for demand. Need to also increase supply.

Problem won't get solved until politicians have to pump and purchase gas for truckers on cross-country trips.

By the way, if you really want to sock it to ExxonMobil, don't buy any snacks or drinks. Profit margin is FAR higher for convenience-store items than for gas.

I have no clue what the solution is, but I am thinking of selling one of my mouthy teenagers to fill up this weekend.

Other than that, I say we bomb someone again.

Dude - $4.03 a gallon in Laguna... and that's for regular. My ATM cuts of at $75, so I haven't actually filled my car up in weeks.

It's sooooo fucked up!

supply and demand....basic economics...

Perhaps American should be more active in WHOM they elect to office and make sure to follow up on the legislative branch of our government....

I'm seriously considering a hybrid, and working more from home to cut the gas costs. Of course, travelling for work also helps out because I move around and live on the company nickel for a little while. ...Babs

Rev - Enjoy vacation, my friend ... make sure to take public transportation (not taxis) in SF!

Crass - I think conserving as well as finding alternate fuel is the answer ... hopefully someone gets us there!

Geb - I'll let you talk to my boss about this!

Scargosun - I live WAY TOO FAR AWAY to ride a bike to work ... I'd love to do it, if I lived closer.

B - Ethanol is NOT the answer.

Jeff - I'm not buying from any minute mart again ... EVER!

Christina - I want a Segway car!

Kristin - Another good point - ATMS will have to change their cutoff points for gas!

Lisa - The upkeep hurts on hybrids ... that's the biggest problem.

I'm getting a bike... not the pedal the vroom vroom. Because it's cool. Well I think so.

We carpool a lot here. It's our way of "doing something".

Also. I budget my gas money. If I've got $50 for the week.. that's it. I can only go where $50 takes me. Nowhere else.

Which leads me to be on blogland, because I'm home... because I don't have any gas to go anywhere. Poor blogland.
