There was a time in my life where I needed total silence to sleep … which was troublesome, considering we lived right near the airport and train tracks. I would never be able to fall asleep when the tv was on, or if music was playing … heck, I had a tough time falling asleep with a fan on.
Funny how things change. NOW, I have a really tough time falling asleep when there is no noise in the background. I toss and turn more than a death-row inmate (does that comparison even make sense?). I, at the very least need some sort of white noise in the background, like a fan … heck, I even have a fan on in the winter-time just for the rhythmic sound.
My wife likes the tv on, and although it takes me a little longer to fall asleep with the tube on, I end up doing so anyway … I will fall asleep rather easily to the news, or any Bob Ross painting show (the guy was hypnotic – he would start off with a white canvass, talking about adding some happy trees to the canvass … I would close my eyes for what seemed like a few seconds, then I’d wake up, and ½ hour had gone by, in this guy just created a masterpiece … I’m not sure if it was his subtle voice, his crazy afro, or a combination of both … best naps I ever had).
Anyway, I’ve given you guys two weird sleeping “fetishes” I have. I wanted to see if you had any to share. C’mon, don’t be nervous!

If I can get comfortable, then lights and noise typically don't matter. One exception:
I once stayed with a friend whose roommate, while asleep, made alternating snore-then-fart sounds.
Couldn't stop laughing enough to fall asleep.
I can not fall asleep laying on my back.
I have to be on my stomach or side.
That, and I tend to have a lot of trouble falling asleep in a hotel bed the first night I'm there. I usually get used to it by night 2.
I need the fan on all-year-round too. If it's too quiet, I can't fall asleep. The problem with that is I automatically did the same for my kids while tucking them in at night - so they have fans on all the time. I'm sure it makes a difference on the ol' electric bill!!
Oh, and I fall asleep usually my back or side, never on my stomach.
Any type of movement will keep me awake for an extra half hour or so. What I mean is the only way I can fall asleep in a reasonable amount of time is to be laying in bed watching TV until I can't keep my eyes open any longer. If I have to get up to get a glass off water or go to the bathroom I'm wide awake. And no way I could go from hanging out downstairs right to bed.
I have to sleep with the TV on unless there is a guy with me. Then I could care less about the TV.
I don't have a problem sleeping anywhere--hotels, friend's houses, etc. I am pretty comfy anywhere.
I can't sleep if I'm not warm. I will wake up all night. I am a total cover hog.
I love to listen to city noises as I fall asleep. Birds, crickets, cows or any kind of nature noises wake me up. I think I'm just a big city girl at heart.

I can fall asleel anywhere, anytime any place.
I think it must be a side effect from working for an airline.
Although just thinking about it...I do have trouble in any Non moving air. So I need a fan or some kind of circulation...Fresh air....
even if it's 20 below....
Sick!
sometimes i need the white noise fan on to fall asleep, but not always. usually, i need drugs to get into sleepy time mode anyway, so that's the main factor. as odd as it sounds, i couldn't sleep a few nights ago, so i drank a can of Coke and out light a light i went. i'm a freak.
i'll fucking sleep on the street
nothing bothers me
it's all mental
have to have quiet, can't do the tv thing either.
I have to sleep on my stomach, which totally sucked when i was pregnant since I cannot sleep on my back.
I have to put on a fresh pair of undies before I go to bed.
Cannot sleep wearing socks cuz they get all tangled in the sheets.
my room has to be cold, cold enough for me to snuggle chin deep in the sheets.
BTW - Superstar could also sleep through a nuclear fucking halocaust as long as noone turned on her lights. LOL
Jeff - Reminds me of the time I went to New Orleans with a guy with sleep apnea - I thought I was gonna go crazy!
Rev - Hotels are tough for me as well.
B - I guess you are a big "fan," right?
Eric - Wow, how much sleep do you get on an average night?
Snowelf - I have to be cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
Superstar - Working on an airline? Wow - you must have some great stories, right?
Minijonb - That is why I try to stay away from sleeping pills.
ElP - I might have to do that for the PSU game on Saturday night.
Mama - in the summer, I sleep without socks, but I need them in the winter time.
