Fast Food Corner

The 1950's restaurant/diner scene has been seeing a renaissance for the past 20+ years. Supersaturated with neon lights, possibly a pink Cadillac in the parking lot ... lots of fountain drinks with 100's of flavors ... you've seen them, I'm sure.

In Delaware County, we've been blessed to have Nifty Fifties since the 1980's. It is a diner that has all of the above mentioned 1950's "flair," plus 1950's jukebox music which accentuates the atmosphere. Also, the entire diner seems to be built from chrome.

It is one of my favorite places - brings back great memories of childhood. The place serves a fantastic milk shake. The Pistol Pete's Spicy Fries are fantastic, and the burgers are to die for. Nifty Fifty's also serves great breakfast at reasonable prices. The fresh squeezed orange juice is a nice touch, too.

It is a VERY popular place, so sometimes it takes a while to be seated. Plus, parking at the Holmes/Folsom location is miserable. But, it's all worth it. If you're ever in the area, I'd suggest going here.

There is an Indian restaurant called The Vagina. I kid you not. I have photographic evidence.

We have a 50s-style restaurant by us, too. It's called Chatterbox and it's awesome!

Last time I was at Nifty Fifty's, it pretty much sucked. The food was way too greasy -- even for that type of place. Worse yet, the milkshakes tasted like metal.

So which is better: Nifty Fifty's or Zac's?

Love Nifty Fifty's. I recently tried the all-raved about "Cheeburger, Cheeburger" (Stolen from John Belushi and SNL?)and it wasn't that good - it was a fight to keep the burger from sliding out of the bun, not a very clean place, and to top it off, I got my usual BIG THICK HAIR cooked in with the fries. Ugh.
