Come On Down???

Sad news from the land of game shows. Legendary Price is Right Host, and a guy that apparently poked a lot of hot “beauties” on the show, Bob Barker is retiring after what seems like 1 million years as the host of the popular game show.

Obviously, this day had to come sooner or later, and truthfully, I thought it would’ve happened many years ago. I grew up watching the guy give away cars and lovely dinette sets, not to mention tons and tons of money on Plinko. I enjoyed watching him try to putt the golf ball in the popular “Hole in One” game. I was envious of his cool microphone, and enjoyed trying to guess the price of a six-pack of tic-tacs. I was as shocked as everybody else when he finally stopped dying his hair black.

In my opinion, Bob Barker as a game show host was only bettered by Gene Rayburn (of Match Game fame), and I am concerned/interested in finding out who will replace this celebrated man. Barker outlasted not only every other game show host, but also announcers like Johnny Olson and Rod Roddy. The Price is Right will go on – it is just too fun of a show to fall to the wayside. But, I’d really like to know who is capable of hosting this show for the next few decades (the network did try on numerous occasions to put the show on prime-time, but for some reason, the show never succeeded in the evenings – maybe the game show host does have a lot to do with this).

So, I wanted to see if you guys and gals have any suggestions on who could carry this show into the future. I want this to be fun, so if you had the choice of selecting anybody, and I mean ANYBODY, who would it be?

Here are just a few of my choices:

1. Mike Tyson – Seriously, why not? Wouldn’t it be great to see him screw up, get mad, and punch a contestant in the face? Additionally, his banter with the “Tyson Beauties” would probably be priceless.

2. Michael Jackson – Watching his nose fall off on stage would be worth the investment itself. Unfortunately, the Beauties would probably be replaced by “Jackson’s Juveniles.”

3. Will Farrell – This show could use an injection of humor, and Farrell has plenty to offer.

4. Ric Flair – The glitter of the robes he wears is a perfect fit with this show.

5. Lawrence Taylor – Oh what the heck! Just let him do some blow and give him the microphone. It worked with the Gong Show.

Has anyone ever stayed home sick from school or work and not watch Price is Right. I don't think it can be done.

Oh God, Chuck Barris would have been perfect. I agree with the comments here. BB is an icon and an institution. Growing up my Mom loved this show which in turn I embraced. My son knows him as the guy that fought with Adam Sandler.

Eric - I watch him when I stay home sick from work. It would be so cool to spin the wheel.

Reverse - There was a time when I thought Holly was the hottest girl in the world.

ELP - Nice comparison to Hugh Heffner. They gotta find somebody!

Christina - He was awesome in Happy Gilmore. So glad he has a sense of humor.

FM - We need to find somebody worthy of replacing Bob. I might make it my mission!

my buddy went to a live taping once. either before or after the show they have "question and answer" time with bobby.

my friend's question was...

"i have a pet.. wheres the best place to get them spayed or neutered?"

he kind of stuttered and then explained that any local place could get it done for them.

i chuckled.

Somebody who comes to mind for some reason.. John Cleese. He's a little old now, but it would be entertaining.

Jeff, I like the Johnny Knoxville idea too!

What about Jack Black? That might get annoying after about a day.

Los said...

Jeff - How about Vince McMhahon?

IAM - I've always wanted to go to a taping of the PIR.

B - Jack Black would get very annoying, BUT if he did little guest spots like Adam Sandler did on Remote Control, that might be o.k.

Speaking of which, should Kevin Ober be on this list?

i think i should host.. then i can degrade and rag on every wrong answer.

"oh hell naw, that aint that much! bitch are you crazy?? you lost already.. just go back to your seat, i dont even have to wait for the Barker Bitches to turn the cards over. roll out!"

Now that would be great - a host that heckles! The possiblities are endless.

we could just steal the famous "price is wrong, bitch" line and call it a day.

i see a marriage made in tv heaven. it could be a mix of showtime at the apollo, a comedy central roast, and a game show.

"the price is wrong for the new millenium... bitch."

I think I could do it.

Hold a microphone in front of a camera... I've done that in my life.

Give money away to excited women... done that too.

Bang a supermodel on the side... sounds like a good deal to me.

I'm in! Sign me up!

IAM - If only Don Rickles was younger, this would be perfect for him.

Smokin' - Are ya gonna quit on this like you did on your blog?

Jeff - Vince might be too old, but one needs a polarizing person like him (and I choose him over that American Idol guy).

Bill Clinton has 'game show host' written all over him.
Can't believe you didn't pick him. :P

Buddy, this is for you:

November 2, 2006 -- FOR better or worse, we're all about to see a little bit more of hyperactive CBS "Early Show" weatherman Dave Price. He just re-upped his contract with the network and may have gotten a sweet side deal - to host the long-running game show "The Price is Right." Longtime "Price" host Bob Barker announced his retirement Tuesday afternoon, and it came as a shock to some. One former co-worker said, "Bob always swore he would die on that show. He had a unique contract where it was for life - and if he left unwillingly, the show had to go dark for a year, effectively killing it." Some think CBS head Les Moonves must have paid off Barker to retire - because he loves Price, who had been threatening to jump ship to Fox. A rep for CBS, Chris Ender, said, "Bob just informed us of his plans. It's premature to discuss another potential host."

Who the hell is David Price???

Fairmaiden327 said...

He's a weatherman here in the city and he is hilarious. You'd love him.

Los said...

I'll be the judge of that!

Los, I'm bored and my first choice is actually working...let's trade remotely witty lines.

Also, you're a partially bald instructional designer? WTF is that? I just read your profile.

I'm scared.

Los said...

Eh - I have a bald spot - haven't lost any hair in the past 6-7 years ... I guess that's good.

I design CBT's (computer based training programs). Sometimes it can be just as boring as it sounds, and sometimes it can be quite fun ... I guess.

Los said...

Oh and I refuse to do the comb-over, so if my hair situation ever gets worse, I'll just shave it all off.

I hate fakers.

Fairmaiden327 said...

Hmmm. I loathe fakers as well. But to make this interesting let's tag those peeps - Denial Embracers.

Fairmaiden327 said...

Oh I have a suggestion Los. How 'bout you steal the garbage from waxing salons? Then you can have a headful o' pubes? That'll work.

Los said...

So, what you are saying is that I should get the George Jefferson look?

Fairmaiden327 said...

Would that be the George Jefferson as in Movin' on Up?

Ima confused.
