The Monkees were a music-company created band of the 1960's ... they had a pretty decent revival in the 1980's, if you recall (MTV was even replaying their kitchy, but funny, shows for a while).
To try and piggy-back on this revival, some "genius" decided it was time to put together a new "Monkees" band, complete with their own TV show. As could be predicted, the show failed miserably, and most people probably have put the "new Monkees" out of the memory.

I remember the reruns of the original Monkees in the 80's. HEY HEY WE'RE THE MONKEES....
