Today is a very, very special day! Sure, it's special partly because it's close to my birthday ... but it's special for another, much more important reason. Today is our annual DBT ... dive bar tour! This is our 6th edition of this wonderful event, and we couldn't be more excited about it.
Basically, we take public transportation up and down Mac Dade Blvd. and Chester Pike, going from bar to bar. Truth be told, not all bars on this "tour" are dive bars, but quite a few of them are ... and that's kind of what makes it fun. For instance, one bar has no beers on tap, and sports an air conditioner on a dinner tray. Another bar still has records in its juke box (or at least this was still the case a few years ago).
We've had some classic moments over the years. For instance, one DBT regular was actually giving directions to the bus driver ... the bus driver who drives the route probably 8 hours a day. This DBT regular also almost got into a fight with a biker - the biker made fun of his shirt (we all wear the same shirt on the bar tour), and asked said DBT regular who made the shirt. He responded, "My friend and I ... and your mom." Good times!
